A good rule of thumb is 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 - 40 pounds of meat.
1/4 (~125 lbs) about 4 cubic feet
1/2 (~250 lbs) about 8 cubic feet
Whole (~500 lbs) about 16 cubic feet
Each processor varies a little but when you call in your cut up order, the processor is the
best one to discuss what cuts you can get and how many.
You can have your share of beef cut anyway you like.
If the steer goes into Ebels, it takes about 2 to 4 weeks to get your meat back from the date
the animal goes in.
If the steer goes to Mackersies, it takes about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to get your meat back from
the date the animal goes in.
The burger is placed into round tubes, that can be 1 lb packages, 1 1/2 lb packages or 2 lb packages.
The steaks and roast are all vacuumed sealed in clear packages.
